USDF and asBNB collateral: understand the second layer of risk

Inspect USDF strategy exposure, asBNB collateral haircuts and Trade & Earn conditions before combining yield with leveraged positions.

Collateral can have its own moving parts

Using an asset as margin combines its own risks with the risks of the derivative position. Aster’s Trade & Earn documentation describes USDF and asBNB collateral, with conditions for rewards and different accepted collateral-value ratios. Rewards do not cancel liquidation, custody, redemption or token-price risk.

Start with two separate questions: what supports the asset’s value, and how much of that value does the trading account recognize as margin? Then examine whether reward conditions change how you would trade.

USDF: inspect the strategy and custody chain

Aster’s explanation of USDF describes minting with USDT and deploying capital through a custody and trading process involving Ceffu and Binance. That is material context: a stable-value target is not a guarantee, and a delta-neutral strategy does not eliminate counterparty, execution, operational or redemption risk.

USDF and its staked form asUSDF are distinct assets. Check the exact asset you hold, the applicable minting or redemption route, timing and fees. Do not infer immediately available redemption from a quoted secondary-market price.

asBNB: value and margin value differ

The reviewed Trade & Earn page gives asBNB a 95% collateral-value ratio. At an illustrative market value of 1,000 quote units, that ratio recognizes 950 as collateral value before other account effects. If the asset’s market value falls, the recognized value falls too.

This haircut is separate from the price risk of the perpetual position. A trade and its collateral can lose value together. The margin guide explains why that matters more in a shared cross-margin account.

Do not trade merely to unlock rewards

The reviewed program documentation places volume and activity conditions on certain USDF trading rewards, including a weekly volume threshold and a holdings cap. Check the current program page for exact eligibility. A campaign reward is not a reason to generate unnecessary fees or take a position you otherwise would not take.

Compare expected rewards with entry and exit fees, funding, potential price loss and the work needed to maintain eligibility. Model the trading costs separately in our fee tool. No current APY is asserted here because the yield and eligibility are not independently monitored by this page.

Common questions

Does delta-neutral mean risk-free?

No. It describes an intended offset in directional price exposure, not protection from all losses or operational failures.

Does collateral yield prevent liquidation?

No. The account still needs sufficient recognized margin as prices, costs and requirements change.
